Future Foundry’s first ever Dover Youth Festival is an exciting week-long festival for and by the young people of Dover. All are welcome to get involved in the events, activities and to visit our exhibition, which showcases the creative and cultural passions, hobbies and interests of Dover’s amazing young people.

Artswork is an arts organisation working in the Dover community. Their work strives to make the arts and creativity available to absolutely everyone. They will be delivering careers-based drop in activities. Open to all young people. Participate in creative zine making and learn about potential careers and apprenticeships in the creative industries. See artwork.org.uk.

Parental Acceptance with Shaun Dawson

Star of Netflix and Channel 4’s Drag SOS, Shaun Dawson aka Poppy Love will be leading a session for parents and young people, focussing on parental acceptance. As a passionate campaigner for parental acceptance and proud LGBTQIA+ ally, Shaun has an important message to share.

The Big Draw with Dover Creative Network

This year, The Big Draw will be held at Dover Youth Festival! Led by Dover Creative Network artists Petra Matthews Crow and Steph Wallace. This year’s theme is drawing with senses. Open to all ages, no experience or skills needed. A drawing table will be available to use all throughout the festival too!

Drop-in Workshops: Cyanotypes with Casey and Upcycling Denim with Gloria

On Tuesday, drop in between 10am-5pm to have a go at the photographic printing process ‘Cyanotype’, led by artist Casey Brett. Gloria Jane Royer will also be in the Charlton Centre up-cycling old denim to create something new for and with you to take home. All materials and equipment provided.

Oliver Seager aka Kotchin is a hip hop artist and producer from Kent. He has huge experience of working in the music industry and we’re so lucky that he will be running a workshop for Dover Youth Festival. Write a song in an afternoon: Including singing, rap, mixing, and instruments. All abilities and genres welcome.

Climate Action Day

Thursday 26th of October is Climate Action Day! Bob Henderson will be with us documenting the voices of Dover’s young climate activists (typewriter in hand), Zo will be hosting a trash-shoe workshop where you can design and make your own footwear out of waste materials, Louella Ward of Kent Downs AONB will be coming to talk to us about the aspiring Cross-Channel UNESCO Global Geopark (which Dover is part of!), and the Future Foundry team will be in house to tell you all about their initiative ‘Closing The Loop’…plus more to be announced!

Future Creatives Takeover

Special edition of Future Foundry’s new Future Creatives club. During this workshop, expert artist educator Nova Marshall, will give Dover’s young people a chance to have their voices heard, to express their opinions and to show the town how they might be involved in future decision making.

BAFTA-winning game makers Coney come to Dover Youth Festival! Bringing ‘Gathering Storm’ to you, this is a game about being in charge, and facing a gathering storm. “You’re islanders, competing for land, power, and Oreos (for real!). Join one of three houses in the government of a small island, threatened by a gathering storm. This is a game about democracy, grown-ups and young people, with a twist in its tail.”
